Finally, made it down to Birmingham, AL. The beautiful Barber Motorsports Park is the last stop on my spirited escape and home of the Porsche Sport Driving School. After a week long trip of pushing myself beyond my comfort zone in an effort to gain a new perspective, it made sense that here, at the racetrack, I would learn how to experience the full power of the Boxster.
I hung out with Hurley Haywood, chief driving instructor and world famous endurance-racing driver. Hurley is everything I expected. He’s an absolute legend and driving champion. He taught me how to drive, how to take corners and how to push the car to the limits through the elements. With it raining part of the day, I learned how difficult it is to drive on the track, rain pelting your windshield, in a 24-hour race. Now I know what it feels like to push a Porsche, while feeling in control like a race car driver.
I also had the chance to see iconic Porsche models from over the years, including a 910, 550 Spyder, Carrera GT, RS 60, 904, 914-6 Roadster, and 914-6 Coupe. It was awesome to see this stunning set of cars with Mr. Haywood himself in one location. This was a memorable way to end the Boxster Road Trip.
